A 58-year-old worker died at a construction site in Ambernath East after a loose end of her sari became caught in an operating cement mixer, police said. The incident occurred at the Palegaon MIDC area on August 1.
The worker, identified as Revati Padu Gaud, suffered serious abdominal injuries and was first taken to Badlapur Rural Hospital. She was referred to Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar after her oxygen level fell, but doctors declared her dead while she was being transported.
Shivajinagar police registered a case under the applicable procedural provision. The incident raises basic questions about machine guarding, clothing rules, supervision and whether workers have been given safe operating procedures in a language they understand.
Construction safety is often discussed after a fatality, but risk controls need to be visible before work begins. Moving machinery should have guards and emergency stops, and employers must ensure that protective clothing does not create a new hazard.
